How can you help?

You can make a difference

This is your community. The prison opposition campaign is just a first step in the Fields Association’s aim to nurture and improve where we live. On a daily basis, we hear from members of the community who want to stop these Mega Prisons, but are unsure of how to help. We recognise that we are all different and can offer differing levels of contribution in terms of time, activities or money. Everyone can do something. Here are ways that you can get involved as much or as little as you are able to.

Become a Community Member

When you become a Fields Association community member you are supporting YOUR community. You are not only expressing your opposition to the construction of Wethersfield Mega Prisons but also joining us in trying to ensure that any future development of our villages is suitable in terms of communal needs and the natural environment. Your view matters. You will be entitled to vote and have a say at the annual general meeting (AGM) and take a more active role should you wish.

We ask for just a £10 contribution to help us pay for things we cannot do alone. In return we promise to use every penny to fight this development and others like it! All active Field Association Members are volunteering their time for free, so you can be confident that 100% of the funds received will be used for expert professional services (including legal and planning services), initiatives that will demonstrate how this is not an appropriate location for the prison and marketing materials to help us to spread the message. We are also actively engaging with a number of people interested in alternatives uses of the site and collecting ideas how we can develop our community in a sympathetic and sustainable way.

WASC ( Wethersfield Airbase Scrutiny Committee ) will be starting with a professional Landscape Assessment of the area, which needs to be done while the trees are bare to reveal the full visual impact of the prison on our area.

To stop us incurring charges on your donations you can now pay money directly into The Fields Association bank account.

Print at home posters

Some community members have been asking for a poster to put on their property.

We have designed this poster for you to download and print at home to use.

It is the same design as the large banners at the entrance to the MoD at Sculpins Lane.

Click on the poster to download and print.

Sign the Petition

We need for as many people to sign the petition as possible! Please sign it and share it across social media or by emailing a link to others.

There are also many people, including the elderly, who are not regularly online and may need assistance in accessing and signing it so please help people you may know. Please remember an email is needed to click and confirm support, otherwise it will not be counted.

Social Media Support

If you are on social media, please ‘like’ the SWAP page, and share our posts. Every day, more and more people are becoming aware of the situation and are voicing their concerns both locally, across the UK and overseas, so we need to keep spreading the message.

Donate

If you would like to and are able to give a little more, all funds are gratefully received.

All The Fields Association members are already donors themselves and the more money we raise, the more action we can take to oppose the prison and find an alternative, mutually beneficial use for the site.

Want to get more involved? Stopping this mass development is a huge project and there is much to be done! We need all types of people undertaking all types of roles from meetings to leafleting, so there will be a way for you to add value and contribute to the cause. The more people get involved, the easier it will be to stop this prison and find an alternative use for the site that will not destroy the area we know and love.

If you’d like to get involved, even if you are not sure how, send a message to swapmembership@outlook.com with the subject “I’d like to Help” stating the time you can give, even if just a couple of hours a week, and if you have an idea of how you might like to get involved.
